Rutan Type Canard Fly-in 2017
KKNB, Kanab, UT

It was that time of year again!  We made our trip down to Kanab as always.  This year we had moved into a different hotel due to some issues at Aikens Lodge.  The new Canyon Collection hotels were very nice and were very accommodating to our group.  We're going to look forward to going there again next year.

As always, many people gathered on Friday with more arriving Saturday.  I had brought examples of the two types of Igus bearings that people were using to show the difference in the center ball play.  There was the usual discussions of how this was built and how fast people's planes were going.  Sunday morning brought the timed event as usual.  This year only two berkuts competed in the berkut heat.  The one race... I mean timed event... that everyone was looking forward to was the one between David Orr's berkut and Chris Woodard's VariEze.  It was great fun to watch it all.

Alyssa finally got to fly in a Cozy when the air wasn't super bumpy for her and she could enjoy it. Cookie was going to take me up in the Cozy III, but a failure of the starter meant that plans had to change.  I appreciate him trying, but fully understood needing to take care of other things.  At any rate, it was a fun time for all of us.
